Biography

William “Marty” Martin serves as professor in the Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University. In this role, he has launched several graduate degree programs, from a Master of Business Administration/Master of Science program with Rush University to a Master of Science program in health informatics. Prior to this role, he served as director of diversity at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and later as senior executive for institutional diversity at DePaul University. Earlier in his career, Dr. Martin worked at AT&T in health affairs, The National Institutes of Health and Tulane University Hospital & Clinic. Dr. Martin has written two books, more than 100 refereed journal articles and in 2019, he launched his own digital sleep health platform. His scholarly work has been featured by USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

He continues to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion but with an emphasis on anti-racism and implicit bias coaching and training. Dr. Martin currently serves on several boards, including the Center for Health Innovation and is involved in the digital health startup ecosystem in Chicago. Dr. Martin also coaches clients on practicing mindful leadership, achieving performance optimization by syncing their schedule with their chronotype and managing internal and external distractions. As a coach, he draws on both his knowledge and skills as a licensed clinical psychologist and advanced training in sports and performance psychology. Dr. Martin serves as faculty for ACHE seminars including Big Data and Analytics: A Perspective for Healthcare Leaders and Leading with Influence, Not Authority.
