Biography

Sallie Thieme Sanford, JD, is an associate professor at the University of Washington School of Law, with an adjunct appointment in the School of Public Health, Department of Health Systems and Population Health. Before entering academia, Sanford clerked for the Honorable Robert R. Beezer of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and served as an assistant attorney general representing the University of Washington (UW) Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, and the UW’s health sciences schools. Professor Sanford’s teaching and connections to the practice community inform her scholarship. Her recent work focuses on health reform implementation, Medicare, Medicaid, and value-based payment models, with particular attention to underserved populations. She has published several short, accessible articles about the Affordable Care Act and the litigation surrounding it.
