Biography
Nick Barcellona assumed the role of chief financial officer of West Virginia University Medicine (WVUM) in July 2023. Prior to joining WVUM, Barcellona was the CFO and treasurer of Temple University Health System starting in September 2020. Prior to Temple, he served in various leadership capacities at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children’s Hospital (CHP), including vice president of operations, vice president of Pediatric and Academic Affairs, executive administrator for the Department of Pediatrics and the CFO. Barcellona also served as the CFO for UPMC Children’s Foundation.
Barcellona joined UPMC in 2005 as a senior financial analyst in the Corporate Finance department and in 2007, he became staff associate to the CFO of the Hospital and Community Services Division. In 2009, he became the CFO of UPMC Mercy and the UPMC Rehabilitation Network and worked through 2013. Barcellona became the CFO for UPMC Children’s in 2013, while also serving as the finance integration leader and interim CFO for UPMC Altoona from 2013 through 2015. Before coming to UPMC, Barcellona worked for General Electric where he held the position of auditor on the corporate audit staff and was a graduate of GE’s two-year financial management program. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.
Barcellona is a member of ACHE, HAP, HFMA and WVHA. He was the board chair at the Woodlands Foundation, the chair at Family Services of Western Pennsylvania and a board member at Children’s Community Pediatrics. Barcellona was recognized in 2010 by Pittsburgh Magazine as one of Pittsburgh’s 40 under 40 and in 2021 as a CFO of the Year in the Rising Star category by the Philadelphia Business Journal.
