Biography

Merette Khalil is a multilingual health systems researcher, passionate gender and sexual reproductive health and rights advocate, and entrepreneurial birth-worker and educator, based in Cairo, Egypt. She currently works as a consultant with the World Health Organization, where her research enables policymakers to strengthen health systems for health security and advance gender and health equity. Fighting for the elimination of obstetric violence, Ms. Khalil founded YourEgyptianDoula to educate, advocate and empower expecting parents on their rights in childbirth and has published her research on this subject in numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, podcasts and global health conferences. Ms. Khalil is also the co-founder of the Egyptian Chapter of the Women in Global Health, championing gender equality.
