Biography
Verlon Edward Salley is a dynamic healthcare executive with a proven track record in leadership, community health equity and strategic imaging services management. In his current role at the University of Alabama (UAB), Salley is dedicated to fostering collaborations that facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of system-wide health equity strategies.
Salley has successfully developed the strategic plan, goals and values for health equity at UAB Health System. He has demonstrated expertise in analyzing clinical data to identify disparities and inequities in access and outcomes. Salley's commitment extends to the community, where he collaborates with organizations, such as the Jefferson County Faith Coalition, to provide health screenings and vaccination clinics. His efforts include delivering community health needs assessments to under-resourced populations and establishing measures for the community engagement pillar of the system’s strategic plan.
Before his current position, Salley served as the executive director of Radiology at UAB Medicine, where he orchestrated and implemented enterprise-wide imaging services initiatives. His achievements include the successful opening of three new outpatient imaging locations and collaborating with payers to offer exclusive treatments in nuclear medicine.
Salley's extensive experience also includes roles at UPMC Presbyterian/Shadyside in Pittsburgh, where he served as the executive director of Imaging Services. There, he managed over 700,000 imaging procedures annually, achieved Comprehensive Stroke Certification and directed a $47 million construction and renovation project for the imaging department.
A leader in the healthcare community, Salley holds certifications as a radiology administrator, data analyst and in diversity, equity & inclusion. He earned a Master of Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Arts in Health Services Administration from Florida Atlantic University.
Salley is actively involved in professional organizations, holding memberships in the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). He is the current chapter president of the National Association of Healthcare Service Executives (NAHSE) and has been recognized with the ACHE of Alabama Regent's Award for diversity, equity & Inclusion. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Salley is deeply committed to community service. He serves on the boards of Firehouse Ministries and the University of South Florida Alumni Association and is actively engaged with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham.
