Biography

Kenneth A. DeVane, MBA, MS, is an improvement science professional with an undergraduate degree in engineering, an MBA, and a master’s degree in management science. He began learning the philosophy, approaches, and tools of performance improvement working in the aerospace and advanced materials industries. DeVane has over twenty years of experience successfully applying these methods in healthcare while leading, facilitating, coaching, and supporting a wide variety of clinical, operations and administrative projects that range from strategic initiatives to coaching frontline staff. He has presented and taught improvement methods at multiple hospitals, health systems and for professional organizations.

DeVane is an ASQ (American Society for Quality) Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a senior member of ASQ. He also holds a silver level Lean certificate. His experience includes having been a senior examiner for a state-level Baldrige-based assessment program. DeVane serves as an adjunct faculty member at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon where he teaches courses for the School of Healthcare Administration and Leadership. In addition, he currently is a senior performance improvement consultant in the medical school at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. His responsibilities include managing improvement projects and teaching and coaching others on improvement and analytical methods.
