Leadership Spotlight: Healthcare Technology: From Crisis Response to Preparedness
In an exclusive ACHE video presentation, Indu Subayia, MD, president/co-founder, Catalyst @ Health 2.0, discusses the trends in digital health and how care is delivered post COVID-19.
Subayia says the technology community is here to help, and that there is an opportunity to bring together “pain points and turn them into priorities so we can best respond to our current crisis and prepare for the future.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for more digital platforms and new options to deliver care, says Subayia, in which technology companies are becoming care delivery models. This approach is to help create a new landscape of vertically integrated healthcare organizations.
Help Shape ACHE’s Policy Statements
Each year, select Policy Statements are reviewed to ensure their continued relevance to the field. Many of these statements are derived directly from comments you have shared with us. For that reason, we are asking for your input. Please take a moment to read the five Policy Statements, including one Ethical Policy Statement, under review this year:
- Considering the Value of Experienced Healthcare Executives Regardless of Age
- Creating an Ethical Culture Within the Healthcare Organization
- Healthcare Executives' Role in Emergency Management
- Increasing and Sustaining Racial/Ethnic Diversity in Healthcare Management
- Preventing and Addressing Workplace Abuse: Inappropriate and Disruptive Behavior
Please submit your comments to PolicyReview@ache.org. The deadline for submitting comments is July 20, 2020. The Board of Governors will discuss these statements and any recommended revisions during its November meeting. The revised statements will be posted on ache.org by the end of the year.
CMS: Prior Authorization Process, Requirements for Certain Hospital Outpatient Services
Beginning July 1, certain hospital outpatient department services require prior authorization as a condition of payment. While only hospital OPD service requires prior authorization, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services wants to remind other providers that perform services in the hospital OPD setting that claims related to or associated with these services will not be paid if the service requiring prior authorization is not eligible for payment. These related services include, but are not limited to, anesthesiology services, physician services and facility services. Only associated services performed in the OPD setting are affected.
Depending on the timing of claim submission for any related services, claims may be automatically denied or denied on a postpayment basis. For more information, visit:
