Today’s nursing workforce is complex. Nurse managers want to manage units where their staff feel valued and belong. The role of the nurse manager is pivotal to the success of the nursing unit affecting quality, satisfaction, turnover rates and vacancy rates. The burden of daily operations leads to nurse manager burnout and turnover, both heightened with the pandemic. AtlantiCare implemented a 4-day work week for nurse managers as a retention initiative. Post-implementation, nurse managers report greater job satisfaction, better work-life balance and feeling recharged.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the role of the nurse manager in successful operations.
  • Describe the value and effectiveness of a flexible, 4-day work week for nurse managers.
  • Identify approaches to creating a 4-day work week for nurse managers as a retention initiative.

Speakers:

Helene Burns, DNP, FAONL, FAAN, Chief Nursing and Operations Executive, AtlantiCare.
