What Makes an Effective Physician Leader: Recipes for Success
As organizations engage increasing numbers of physicians in leadership roles, the process of deciding which physicians to move into leadership becomes dicey. Several organizations today are enrolling many physicians into leadership development programs. But the historical judgement of selecting the best clinicians to be in leader roles is somewhat flawed. Organizations would be wise to develop more validated assessment and selection processes. This session looks at some of the more validated attributes and characteristics that best identify which physicians have the greatest propensity to become effective leaders. It will also provide attendees with approaches for identifying those physicians within their own organizations.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the attributes and interests that best identify which physicians have the greatest propensity to become effective leaders.
- Explore ways that organizations can begin to identify the physicians who are best suited to play leadership roles and move into various leadership positions.
- Describe the key elements of a high leadership potential program.
