Service Line Planning: Developing a Consumer Based Approach to Providing Quality Care

September 11 - October 4, 2024
9 ACHE Virtual Interactive Education credits

Two experienced healthcare executives will address how to evaluate your organization’s service lines by using tools to select areas for future growth such as a SWOT analysis, cultural compatibility assessment and market analysis combined into a weighted decision matrix. Areas of discussion include the internal and external criteria to be used in the evaluation and how to incorporate qualitative and quantitative metrics in this tool. Some of the criteria that will be evaluated by service line includes net income, contribution margin, internal volume, market volume, market dominance, cultural/strategic fit, ease of implementation, start-up or expansion costs, and clinical expertise. The seminar will address building patient preferences into care delivery, and faculty will provide ideas on how to align clinical teams, establish clinical guidelines and identify partners along the continuum. Finally, participants will develop a benchmarking document to monitor progress against goals.

Seminar Objectives:

  • Evaluate individual service lines for growth opportunities based on quality, convenience and cost-effective care aligned with corporate goals.
  • Assess the needs of the existing and targeted patients and how these can be met within each service line during and after a crisis.
  • Identify the most effective and efficient care delivery models depending on the site of care and types of service provided, including managing transitions inside and outside the organization.
