Cynthia Washington was recently appointed as the interim executive director of the National Association of Health Service Executives. NAHSE is the association of Black healthcare executives whose purpose is promoting the advancement and development of Black healthcare leaders and elevating the quality of healthcare services rendered to minority and underserved communities.
Cynthia has more than 20 years of experience and in-depth knowledge, skills, leadership, and strategies for advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in healthcare and association management. She formerly served as the interim president/CEO of the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, an American Hospital Association affiliate. In that role, she was the leading voice for diversity within the AHA and she served as AHA’s liaison to NAHSE for 10 years.
Cynthia has successfully cultivated relationships with national healthcare/diversity associations, including the American College of Healthcare Executives, Association of University Programs in Health Administration, National Association of Latino Healthcare Executives and state hospital associations.
Cynthia received her bachelor of science degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and completed advanced certification in board training and development from the University of Chicago. She is a board member of the Chicago Advisory Council of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Habilitative Systems Inc. Past board roles include Diversity MBA magazine and the Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Women.
