Maintaining a Culture of Safety: Implementing Systematic Solutions
ACHE created the Digital Safety Courses as part of our ongoing effort to provide healthcare leaders with the tools and resources needed to lead for safety. The publication Leading a Culture of Safety: A Blueprint for Success was used as the framework for these courses. The Blueprint is a joint effort from ACHE and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement/National Patient Safety Foundation Lucian Leape Institute.
Healthcare organizations are responsible for creating and representing a compelling vision for a culture of safety. Within a culture of safety, mistakes are not only acknowledged, but also studied with the end goal of changing care processes to foster sustainable, positive change. This course will demonstrate the importance of a just culture and transparency and will offer tips for implementing and communicating systematic solutions for systematic failures. The course will further examine how leaders can sustain a culture of safety. After completing this course, participants will be able to develop the high-reliability leadership, practices, processes and procedures necessary for identifying and fixing systematic safety failures in a healthcare organization.
ACHE wishes to acknowledge the following contributors to the course: Susan Teman, Senior Manager, Strategic Consulting, Press Ganey, and M. Michael Shabot, MD, Founder Partner, Relia Healthcare Advisors.
