Cleveland Clinic has been on a journey to open its first hospital in Europe, a 184-bed multispecialty hospital with supporting outpatient facilities in Central London, due to open in fall 2021 after managing through the COVID pandemic. This session offers a case study of the journey from planning to activation, highlighting key components of the project, including cultural and system integration, construction and IT implementation, clinical service line development, training, onboarding and activation, and global strategic planning.

This presentation will begin with introductions to four healthcare professionals who have helped lead the planning and activation of Cleveland Clinic London (CCL). The team will present the key components involved with launching a greenfield international hospital. The session will outline the complexities and challenges that CCL faced in combining the best of U.S. healthcare with the best of UK healthcare to create CCL. This includes the construction of 400,000 sq. ft. of medical space, the design, build and implementation of 80 IT applications, clinical service line development, training and on-boarding of 1,300 new caregivers, facility activation and global strategic planning. The outcomes for learners will be an in-depth understanding of international hospital planning and activation as part of a leading global healthcare system.
