Leadership Insights: Strategies for Combating Health Disparities

March 22, 2021 Recording
1 ACHE Qualifying Education credit

Health systems have begun to recognize racism as a public health crisis, as the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 has laid bare severe disparities afflicting communities of color. Yet, few know what it means to plan and execute initiatives that will have measurable, sustained impacts on inequity and the social causes of poor health outcomes. This interactive session will feature the leaders of three major provider systems working to eliminate systemic inequities in their organizations and across the communities they serve. The panel will focus on the challenges these leaders face as they implement new policies and practices to build an inclusive workplace culture and eliminate healthcare disparities while forming community partnerships aimed at creating community health equity. The role of academic medicine in inclusion, as well as the relationship of equity to quality and patient safety, also will be covered.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify effective health system practices to combat structural racism within these institutions and across the communities they serve.
  • Define challenges faced by senior leaders as they spearhead difficult endeavors with implications for workforce, governance and community relationships.

Presented By:
