Meet the ACHE Faculty

<div id="pastingspan1"></div><div id="pastingspan1">Thomas A. Atchison, EdD, is president and founder of Atchison Consulting LLC. Since 1984, Dr. Atchison has consulted with healthcare organizations on managed change programs, team building and leadership development. His clients include senior executives, managers, trustees and physician leaders. He has also consulted the military, healthcare vendors and government agencies on the intangible aspects of healthcare.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div id="pastingspan1">Dr. Atchison has taught several courses on leadership and change management for ACHE. He has also written numerous articles about motivation, managed change, teambuilding and leadership. His book, <em>Turning Healthcare Leadership Around</em>, was published in October 1990. <div>Jim Austin<strong>&nbsp;</strong>heads JH Austin Associates Inc., Chicago, where he combines business strategy and organizational development theory with extensive industry experience to guide organizations. He is also an adjunct senior lecturer at Brown University, Providence, R.H., in the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership program, and a faculty member at Duke Corporate Education, headquartered in Durham, N.C. Mr. Austin is a lecturer/consultant at the Aresty Institute of Executive Education in the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, where he tailors and delivers senior-level seminars on strategy, strategic execution, scenario planning and critical thinking at a number of leading companies. <p>Laurie K. Baedke is the founder and CEO of Growth Edge Holdings. Baedke is a well-regarded keynote speaker at international conferences, an executive coach and the host of a weekly leadership podcast, <em>The Growth Edge</em>.</p> <p>Baedke holds a master's degree in healthcare administration and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American College of Medical Practice Executives. She has been certified by the Gallup organization as a Strengths Performance Coach since 2006. </p> <p>Baedke contributed a chapter titled "The Clinician Entrepreneur" in <em>The Handbook of Private Practice</em>, a book published by Oxford Press in 2017. <p>Danielle Bangs is a director at Veralon. She advises healthcare organizations on merger and affiliation efforts, joint ventures, and other partnerships and transactions, including partner selection, partnership development and deal structuring, negotiation and process facilitation. She also provides advice on a range of financial and business planning initiatives.She has worked with health systems, community hospitals, academic medical centers, behavioral health providers, health plans and clinically integrated networks/accountable care organizations.</p> <p>Bangs has experience in transaction advisory and support including due diligence, negotiation, partner selection and deal structuring; strategic, business and financial planning for hospitals and health systems; physician alignment efforts, including primary care network development, selection of alignment models and evaluating physician practices; and compensation design and fair market value analyses.</p> <p>Bangs was most recently director of corporate development for Universal Health Services. In this capacity she was responsible for a wide range of transactions across the company&#8217;s markets, including joint ventures, acquisitions, partnerships and strategic investments. These transactions spanned ambulatory surgery centers, home health, hospitals, behavioral health, physician groups, Medicare Advantage plans and ACOs.</p> <p>Bangs received designation as a certified valuation analyst from National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. She holds a Bachelor of Science in policy analysis and management and a Master of Health Administration from Cornell University.</p>

<p>For more than 20 years, Karma Bass has been a sought-after speaker, facilitator and consultant with deep knowledge and experience in governance, strategic planning, philanthropy, healthcare policy and board effectiveness. Her experience gives her a unique and valuable perspective as a consultant to hospital and health systems boards.</p> <p>Before co-founding Via Healthcare Consulting, Karma worked as vice president for Accord Limited, a Chicago-based consulting firm. She served two years as president/CEO of Alliance Healthcare Foundation in San Diego, where she reported to an independent, 11-person not-for-profit board. Notably, Karma spent 10 years at The Governance Institute, holding various positions including vice president of membership services and director of research and publications. She also oversaw the prestigious biennial hospital governance practices survey tracking trends in nearly 5,000 U.S. hospitals and health systems. During three years at the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, Karma facilitated the first-ever collaborative community health needs assessment for San Diego&#8217;s 32 hospitals. </p> <p>Karma has a master&#8217;s degree in public health with a focus in health services administration from San Diego State University. She received her bachelor&#8217;s degree from the University of California, San Diego.</p>

Karyn Baum is professor of medicine, School of Medicine, and adjunct&nbsp;professor, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.&nbsp;She is also vice president, System Clinical Operations, M Health-Fairview, Minneapolis,&nbsp;co-leading the Health Transformation Center. Dr. Baum has a history of leading&nbsp;hospital operations at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis,&nbsp;where she is currently interim vice president, Medical Affairs, overseeing&nbsp;operations, finances and medical leadership. Dr. Baum previously served as the&nbsp;center's executive medical director for Care Transitions and Patient Flow, and associate&nbsp;CMO. A practicing hospitalist, she was the senior consultant, Association of&nbsp;American Medical Colleges, Washington, D.C., directing their Educating for&nbsp;Quality initiatives from 2015-2017.

<p>&nbsp;</p> Florence L. &#8220;Flo&#8221; Di Benedetto is the President and CEO of Di Benedetto Solutions, Inc. (DBS) which offers leadership development training, executive coaching, assessments of team culture and effectiveness and reputation management, including crisis communications. Di Benedetto speaks across the country on a variety of topics including values driven, accountable leadership, team management, culture, diversity and resilience. Di Benedetto also provides advice and counsel to governing boards, interim and fractional executive leadership and general counsel services as well as complex litigation strategy and management. She serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, a mediator for alternative dispute resolution and has extensive experience as a medical staff hearing officer.<br /> <div>Before forming DBS, Di Benedetto served for over 14 years as a strategic business adviser to the president and CEO and other members of senior leadership as the senior vice president and general counsel for Sutter Health, a $15 billion integrated healthcare delivery system with 55,000 employees, more than 12,000 affiliated physicians and multiple hospitals and ambulatory care sites. Di Benedetto had accountability for the office of the general counsel, which included legal services, risk services, Sutter Health Emergency Management System and privacy, information and cyber security. Di Benedetto also provided primary advice and counsel to the Sutter Health board and board committees, including finance, audit and compliance, governance and compensation.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Additionally, Di Benedetto served as the executive sponsor for both the Leadership Academy, a 10-month intensive leadership development program for senior leaders and the administrative fellow and summer intern programs.</div> <div>&nbsp;</div> Di Benedetto earned her bachelor&#8217;s degree in international relations from Georgetown University and studied economics and economic planning at London University and the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw, Poland. <p>Britt Berrett, PhD, LFACHE, is managing director and teaching professor, Healthcare Industry Collaborative, Brigham Young University. His recent book, <em>Patients Come Second&#8212;Leading Change by Changing How You Lead, is a New York Times</em> and <em>Wall Street Journal</em> bestseller. He focuses on the importance of creating a vibrant and engaged leadership team that can orchestrate cultural change.</p> <p>Prior to academia, he served as the president of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, a 900-bed tertiary referral center, and executive vice president of Texas Health Resources, a network of 24 facilities and more than 250 ambulatory centers located throughout North Texas. He previously served as the president/CEO of Medical City and Medical City Children&#8217;s Hospital, the flagship medical center for the North Texas Division of HCA. He also served as a CEO within the SHARP HealthCare system in San Diego.</p> <p>His portfolio includes keynote speeches, leadership workshops, board retreats, executive coaching, strategic planning, organizational assessments, leadership development and organizational culture advancements. His clients include numerous healthcare organizations and professional associations.</p>

<p>Jennifer Bickel, MD, serves as the chief wellness officer at Moffit Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla. She works with senior leaders across the organization to ensure staff well-being is incorporated into all decisions. Dr. Bickel has real-world experience in assessing burnout across healthcare organizations and in developing effective, evidence-based strategies to reduce clinician burnout. Her innovative strategies to improve physician and healthcare worker well-being have been nationally recognized in publications and presentations. </p> <p>As an academic professor and a neurologist, she has won awards in mentorship, leadership and clinical program development. She currently serves as a member of the National Academy of Medicine&#8217;s Action Collaborative for Clinician Well-Being and as the chair for the American Academy of Neurology&#8217;s Wellness Subcommittee. She is also a Berkeley-certified executive coach. Dr. Bickel received her medical degree at the University of Missouri&#173;&#173;&#8211;Kansas City and completed her neurology residency at the University of Kansas. </p> &#173;

<div>Mark Bittle is director of the master of health administration program and responsible for the leadership and management curricula for the MHA, MPH and DrPH degree programs at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. He teaches graduate courses in healthcare financing, leadership and management and operations and strategy. <div>Rod Brace, PhD, is a&nbsp;founding partner, Relia Advisors LLC, Houston, which provides expertise in high reliability organizational models, organizational model/culture assessment and design, leadership development and governance board assessments and strategies, including governance/management interventions.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Dr. Brace most recently&nbsp;retired as regional president/chief learning officer for the Memorial Hermann Health System, Houston. He served 30 years in operational positions, including chief&nbsp;regional operations officer and hospital CEO/COO in nonprofit and&nbsp;investor-owned health systems.</div><div>&nbsp;</div>Rod is an executive&nbsp;coach, national speaker, author and faculty member at both The University of&nbsp;Alabama at Birmingham and ACHE. He also holds an MBA and PhD in management, with&nbsp;a research emphasis in employee engagement, organizational cultures and&nbsp;leadership.

<p>Michael Broscio is Managing Principal of MAB Career Management, LLC. He recently completed more than ten years as the Director of ACHE's Career Resource Center. He is certified as a Career Management Fellow by the Institute of Career Certification International and brings more than 25 years of career development and human resources experience in healthcare, financial services and academic settings.</p> <p>Mr. Broscio received a Master's Degree in Education and a B.A. in Psychology from DePaul University. He has written numerous magazine articles on career issues and has presented at national conferences.</p>

<p>Jon Burroughs, MD, JD, FACHE is president/CEO of The Burroughs Healthcare Consulting Network, Inc., Glen, New Hampshire, which provides best-practice training and solutions to healthcare systems throughout the United States and beyond. His work focuses on how healthcare systems can adopt best practices and avoid systems failures which can result in loss of public confidence and market share. <p>Gregory S. Butler is president of Caldwell Butler &amp; Associates, McKinney, Texas, a firm dedicated to improving hospital performance through the implementation of advanced quality methods. With more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare field and a certified Green Belt in Lean-Six Sigma, he is an expert in leading transformational efforts, having worked with hundreds of healthcare organizations to create a culture of action and innovation. <p>Chip Caldwell, LFACHE, is chairman of Caldwell Butler &amp; Associates LLC, St. Augustine, Fla. He has served as an executive&nbsp;team performance coach for 20 years and is considered a thought leader in&nbsp;healthcare quality and performance improvement methodology.&nbsp;Mr. Caldwell was&nbsp;the healthcare representative on the U.S. Quality Council, and continues to&nbsp;serve as a member of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board Support&nbsp;Team. He has also authored or co-authored six healthcare management books on&nbsp;cost reduction, accountable change models and the executive role in Lean Six&nbsp;Sigma. Catherine Carow is president of Carow Consulting. She has over 20 years of experience in strategic and physician resource planning, mergers and acquisitions, business development, marketing and operations. She specializes in developing business strategies based on data-driven evidence. She initiated and led clinical and senior leadership teams to identify growth opportunities based on financial performance and market advantages. Ms. Carow has managed three to five-year planning processes, as well as annual tactical plans, and developed aligned physician growth strategies. She identified physician specialty and group targets for recruitment, succession planning and retention. <br /><br />Ms. Carow has provided planning, analytical and marketing direction for academic, community, and pediatric hospitals and systems, and nonprofit and government organizations. She developed business plans, analyzed major markets, facilitated retreats, and outlined and evaluated potential partners along the care continuum. In prior positions, Ms. Carow oversaw the planning department, PHO marketing, physician referral call functions and integrated operations of a $20M PHO with a 500-member multispecialty group. She is also experienced with CON regulations and the filing process, having worked with a team to obtain approval for a $280 million inpatient tower. <p>Ms. Carow is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois in the master of health administration program. She earned her master&#8217;s degree in business administration with a concentration in international business from Clemson University and studied in Italy. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Society for Health Care Strategy &amp; Market Development. <p>Kevin Cook has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. He recently joined Sutter Health after working as a managing principal for Caldwell Butler, a healthcare consulting firm that uses evidence-based methods to improve margin, quality and patient experience. Cook has also served as the COO of Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, a five-region, 10-hospital system based in Louisiana and Mississippi. He created the operational infrastructure to move the system from a holding company to an operating company.</p> <p>Cook also led the University of Mississippi Medical Center&#8217;s health system for seven years. Before joining UMMC, Cook spent eight years with Mercy Health in Cincinnati. While at Mercy, he was a regional CEO, market CEO and hospital COO serving in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. He also worked for Triad Hospitals in Mississippi. Before his career in hospital operations, Cook worked with Caldwell Butler as a Six Sigma engineer and as director of operations at the Premier Innovation Institute.</p> <p>Cook earned his undergraduate degree from Hobart and William Smith College and holds a master&#8217;s degree in business administration from Boston University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1991 to 1999, rising to the rank of major. Cook is a two-term Council of Teaching Hospitals board member at the Association of American Medical Colleges and serves as ACHE faculty. </p>

<p>Lynne S. Cunningham has more than 40 years of healthcare experience, including 30 years as a strategic planning and marketing consultant and international speaker on topics focused on strategic communications. She has worked with hospitals, health systems, medical groups, organ procurement organizations and federally qualified healthcare centers in the U.S. and Canada to define, measure and evaluate the perception of quality among patients, employees, physicians and the community. Ms. Cunningham is the author of several books and many journal articles on topics including the impact of patient satisfaction on malpractice exposure, physician involvement in marketing, and marketing best practices in a variety of service lines. Her newest book is <em>Taking Conversations From Difficult to Doable: 3 Models to Master Tough Conversations</em>. She recently retired from Studer Group, where she had been a coach and speaker for 20 years. Prior to that, she held staff administrative positions with Sutter Health and Kaiser Permanente. <div>John H. Daniels, FACHE, is CEO of BICSI in Tampa, a global not-for-profit professional association supporting the advancement of the information and communications technology profession, including healthcare. Mr. Daniels has more than 30 years&#8217; experience in incorporating IT best practices into healthcare organizations and advising health system executives around the world in the effective use of healthcare information technology.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Mr. Daniels serves as faculty for the following ACHE seminar:</div><div><ul><li>Healthcare Technology and Information Management, Board of Governors Exam Review Course&nbsp;</li></ul></div>

<div id="pastingspan1">Stephan Davis, DNP, FACHE, is the inaugural executive director of inclusive leadership education for the Department of Health Administration at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also serves as assistant dean of diversity, equity and inclusion for VCU&#8217;s College of Health Professions, which houses programs across nine disciplines. These include top-ranked programs in U.S. News and World Report, such as nurse anesthesia (No. 1 in the nation), healthcare management and rehabilitation counseling (ranked in the top 5), and physical therapy and occupational therapy (ranked in the top 20).</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div id="pastingspan1">Davis is a faculty member for the American College of Healthcare Executives and an ACHE Fellow. He recently served ACHE as chair of the LGBTQ Healthcare Leaders Community and as a Regent-at-Large, a role created to foster diversity in the governance of ACHE. In addition, he serves as chair of the Quality and Safety Faculty Forum for the Association of University Programs in Health Administration. For his leadership in the interprofessional context, he has been elected as a distinguished scholar and fellow of the National Academies of Practice 2022 class of inductees. Davis holds numerous board certifications, including credentials in healthcare quality, finance, strengths-based coaching, nursing leadership and academic nursing education.</div><div></div>

<p>Craig Deao, (pronounced &#8220;DEE-o&#8221;) is a prominent industry thought leader, accomplished executive and experienced board member helping leaders create better places to work, practice medicine and receive care. He serves as a trusted advisor to boards and executive teams on healthcare leadership, strategic planning, governance, employee engagement, patient experience and patient safety. He splits his time between executive management and thought leadership responsibilities as a published author and invited speaker to more than 400 healthcare organizations across the United States, Canada and Australia. Deao co-led Studer Group&#8217;s journey to become a recipient of the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award in 2010. In 2016, he combined his experience with the latest evidence to author the book, <em>The E Factor: How Engaged Patients, Clinicians, Leaders, and Employees Will Transform Healthcare</em>. In addition to his full-time work with Huron, he serves as faculty for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).</p>

<p id="pastingspan1">Janet Pinkerton Dombrowski spent nearly 20 years as a senior strategy leader in various consulting organizations and large health systems, after an early career in healthcare delivery and operations. She built her personal credibility as a trusted advisor to many executives with intuition, integrative thinking and a direct approach. Over time, she chose to build on her skills at creating synergy and ensuring alignment in projects and processes.</p> <p>She founded JCD Advisors in 2008 with a vision to help clients harness the power of change and direct it toward learning, innovation and growth. For nearly 15 years, Ms. Dombrowski and her team of senior coaches have focused exclusively on the healthcare industry, supporting C-suite executives, senior executives and physician leaders in becoming more intentional about their leadership presence, the creation of highly functioning teams and the importance of alignment in strategy, structure and culture for optimal organization effectiveness. They have broad experience working across a variety of healthcare settings including academic medical centers, national faith-based health systems, regional integrated delivery systems, community hospitals and health centers. They also have experience in higher education and nonprofit social service organizations.</p> <p>Ms. Dombrowski received her Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan, where she is an emeritus member of the Alumni Board and an adjunct faculty member. She also received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. </p>

Edwards, DNP, FACHE, FAANP, currently serves as the first chief experience officer at Providence St. Joseph Health, which operates 51 hospitals and nearly 1,100 clinics in seven states. In this role, Edwards is responsible for ensuring a seamless, modernized and differentiated consumer experience with augmented, digitally enabled access and navigation. This includes designing an enhanced end-to-end experience for patients, while simultaneously simplifying care for system&#8217;s 120,000 caregivers.</p> <p>She previously served as the system senior vice president of advanced practice at Catholic Health Initiatives, now CommonSpirit Health, the largest nonprofit health system by revenue in the United States. <p>Fayola Edwards-Ojeba, MD is the founder and CEO of RechargedMD. As a board-certified internist and former clinical assistant professor at UCSF, Dr. Edwards-Ojeba has cared for patients and taught internal medicine residents. During her time as a practicing physician, she has experienced the deep gratification and frustration of clinical practice. <p>As an organizational psychologist, Reuben Faloughi, PhD, offers coaching, training and interactive workshops to help people and organizations humanize the self, other people and work environments. <p>Sarah Freymann Fontenot, JD, served as the adjunct professor for health law in the Department of Health Care Administration at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas for 26 years and retired in 2023. A former nurse and practicing attorney, she is also a professional speaker who specializes in explaining how healthcare is evolving and what those changes mean for providers. Fontenot also has taught extensively for physician organizations including the Texas Medical Association and for ACHE since 2007, for which she is an online instructor for the Board of Governors Examination Review course, Health Law Essentials. <p>Dr. Cristian H. Lieneck brings over 10 years of hands-on experience in healthcare administration, specializing in medical group practice management alongside a decade of experience in higher education, where he has been instrumental in preparing future healthcare leaders. He currently serves as the interim director for the School of Health Administration at Texas State University. </p> <p>His journey in healthcare began in high school when he became a licensed emergency medical technician (EMT). He later joined the United States Army as a Medical Service Corps officer, starting as a lieutenant where he managed a garrison medical clinic and a field medical evacuation platoon in the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Promoted to captain, he took on roles such as executive officer and dental company commander at Fort Carson, overseeing four outpatient dental practices and an oral surgery clinic. </p> <p>Dr. Lieneck has been widely recognized for his military leadership and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service. As chief clinical officer, Dr. Marcus had systemwide accountability for quality and patient safety, physician advisory services, utilization and case management, clinical documentation improvement, health informatics, medical education, clinical research, population health and managed care. Dr. Marcus was the clinical lead for AMITA Health&#8217;s COVID-19 emergency command center, which encompassed all aspects of the healthcare system&#8217;s pandemic response. </p> <p>Prior to joining AMITA Health, Dr. Marcus was president/CEO of St. Vincent's Health Services in Bridgeport, Conn., and market executive for Ascension&#8217;s New York and Connecticut market. He joined St. Vincent&#8217;s in 2006 as clinical vice president/chairman of the Department of Oncology, where he led development of the system's integrated cancer center. He later served as chief medical officer and as professor of surgery for the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. Earlier in his career at NYU/Bellevue, Dr. Marcus held positions as associate professor of surgery and general surgery program director at the NYU School of Medicine and chief of surgery at Bellevue Hospital Center, where he helped to coordinate Bellevue&#8217;s 9/11 response.</p> <p>Dr. Marcus&#8217; clinical practice was focused on gastrointestinal cancer surgery. <p>Marty Martin serves as professor in the Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University. In this role, he has launched several graduate degree programs, from a Master of Business Administration/Master of Science degree program with Rush University to a Master of Science degree program in health informatics. Dr. Martin has written more than 100 refereed journal articles and two books. His scholarly work has been featured by <em>USA Today</em>, <em>The Wall Street Journal </em>and <em>The Washington Post</em>. Prior to this role, he served as director of diversity at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and later as senior executive for institutional diversity at DePaul University. Earlier in his career, Dr. Martin worked at AT&amp;T in health affairs, at The National Institutes of Health and at Tulane University Hospital &amp; Clinic. He continues to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion but with an emphasis on anti-racism and implicit bias coaching and training. Dr. Martin currently serves on several boards, including the Center for Health Innovation, and is involved in the digital health startup ecosystem in Chicago. In 2019, he launched his own digital sleep health platform. Dr. Martin also coaches clients on practicing mindful leadership, achieving performance optimization by syncing their schedule with their chronotype, and managing internal and external distractions. Mason, DPA, FACHE, is an independent consultant, board member and serial entrepreneur. His career has spanned diverse strategy assignments with more than 400 organizations in 40 states. In addition to joining the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton and founding his own firm early in his career, Mason has held senior executive positions with numerous private and public companies. Mason has also served in a variety of interim management positions, including as a hospital executive and president of a regional health system. After selling his consulting firm to a health technology company in 1997 (after 17 years), he helped start two other technology firms related to EHRs.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div id="pastingspan1">Mason is a recognized thought leader in healthcare strategy. A trusted advisor to executive teams and boards, he has written extensively and established himself as one of the industry&#8217;s prominent voices in dealing with key trends and their implications. <p>Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, is president and CEO of Baptist Health. <p>Gary Oftedahl has had a lifelong interest in exploring new ideas, concepts, theories and contemplating how one might apply them to addressing issues in innovative ways. He is a voracious reader and has used his vast literary exposure to bring unique perspectives to his work. He spent over 40 years in the health care sector, both as a provider of health care and collaborator in multiple initiatives across a wide range of topics and participants. His 26-year experience as an internal medicine physician and over 13-year experience as a chief knowledge officer at the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) fueled his interest in innovation and creativity as he enters the encore phase of his life. </p> <p>While retired from ICSI, Gary has become a collaboration catalyst, spending some of his time pursuing creative and innovative approaches to addressing wellbeing, including working with multiple universities and community organizations. He serves as a board chair of a social impact organization known as Kairos Alive! which uses dance as an example of participatory arts in engaging and supporting communities of all types of diversity. <p>Ranna Parekh, MD, joined MD Anderson as the chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer in May 2022. Previously, she served in a variety of DEI roles including inaugural chief diversity and inclusion officer of the American College of Cardiology and, and deputy medical director and director of the minority fellowship program at the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Parekh is a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist. She has also practiced at the Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School and was the inaugural director/co-founder of the MGH Department of Psychiatry&#8217;s Center for Diversity.</p> <p>Dr. Parekh is co-author of the e-book, <em>Overcoming Prejudice in the Workplace</em> (Harvard Health Publishers, 2012). <p>David L. Schreiner, PhD, FACHE, is president/CEO, Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon, Ill. He is a passionate advocate for rural hospitals, having spent most of his life in small towns and working in small communities.</p> <p>Schreiner considers himself a values-driven leader who lives in the moment, has an unquenchable thirst for continual learning, challenges existing practices, produces positive results, innovates to improve the lives of others and loves unconditionally. He aims to be a missionary for excellent health and vibrant communities and spread love through generosity and healing. His research focuses on improving the health of others, with a particular emphasis on rural communities.</p> <p>From 2016 to 2019, Schreiner served on ACHE&#8217;s Board of Governors. He is also the past chairman of the American Hospital Association Rural Health Task Force. <p>Roberta L. Schwartz is the executive vice president and chief innovation officer of Houston Methodist Hospital, one of the Texas Medical Center&#8217;s founding institutions. She is responsible for overseeing all operations at the 952-bed hospital, which has been named by U.S. News &amp; World Report as the No. 1 hospital in Texas for 10 straight years and has also been named to the publication&#8217;s prestigious Honor Roll of America&#8217;s best 20 hospitals four times. In her role as chief innovation officer, Dr. Schwartz is responsible for advancing and expanding Houston Methodist&#8217;s digital innovation platforms, including telemedicine, artificial intelligence and big data. </p> <p>Prior to joining Houston Methodist, Dr. Schwartz worked as director of business development for Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, as a consultant and project manager to several academic medical centers for APM/Computer Sciences Corporation, and for CMS.</p> <p>Dr. Schwartz earned a master&#8217;s in health science from Johns Hopkins University and an honors undergraduate degree from Barnard College at Columbia University. <p>Jonathan A. Sendach, FACHE, is the executive director at North Shore University Hospital where he oversees the overall executive management for the 800-bed quaternary care hospital. His responsibilities include strategy, financial stewardship and leadership of a facility that serves as one of the cornerstones of Northwell Health, as well as an academic campus for the Zucker Hofstra/Northwell School of Medicine. Prior to being named executive director, he served as deputy executive director and associate executive director for hospital operations. </p> <p>Previously, Sendach was the associate executive director for finance at Glen Cove Hospital, a 265-bed acute care community hospital. There, he managed financial operations, patient financial services and health information management, as well as directed the annual budget process. In addition to business plan development and financial planning, he was also responsible for the oversight of the hospital&#8217;s faculty practice, comprised of 40 physicians and allied health professionals covering a range of specialties. He began his career in healthcare at Northwell as a staff emergency medical technician, working in both the 911 and critical care interfacility transport divisions. </p> <p>Prior to joining Northwell Health, Sendach worked as a senior account executive in the New York health and medical practice at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, an international public relations firm serving a range of clients. He worked on publicity campaigns for products from Pfizer Inc., Merck &amp; Co. and AstraZeneca. Sendach began his career in public relations at the New York City offices of The Rowland Company, where he worked with the healthcare team and served as a co-director of the summer intern training program. </p> <p>Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Sendach holds a bachelor&#8217;s degree from Colgate University and a Master of Public Administration from the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University, where he holds an appointment as adjunct associate professor of health policy and management. <p>Kenneth R. White, PhD, AGACNP, ACHPN, FACHE, FAAN, is the University of Virginia Medical Center-endowed professor of nursing and associate dean for strategic partnerships and innovation in the School of Nursing, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va. He holds additional faculty appointments in the McIntire School of Commerce, the Darden School of Business and the UVA School of Medicine. Dr. White has more than 40 years&#8217; experience in healthcare organizations working in clinical, administrative, governance and consulting capacities. He is also a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner with specialty board certification in palliative care. Patty White is the immediate past president and CEO of Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., a 600-bed, not-for-profit hospital that is a nationally recognized center for quality tertiary care, medical education and research. St. Joseph's is one of the largest hospitals in Dignity Health, one of the nation's largest healthcare systems. Under Ms. White's leadership, St. Joseph's consistently received local and national awards for quality and patient safety, and continues to be a leading center for neurosciences, transplant services and cancer treatment. Ms. White had been a leader in the Dignity Health Arizona Service Area for more than 30 years. She began her career at St. Joseph's as a cardiovascular nurse, eventually serving as COO, CNO and vice president of operations. Prior to joining LCMC Health, she served as system vice president of Human Resources Operations for CHRISTUS Health, vice president of Human Resources for the Northcentral Region of Pennsylvania at UPMC and director of Human Resources for CommonSpirit Health&#8217;s Catholic Health Initiatives Texas Division. Wright's Human Resources expertise is complemented by her background as an attorney, where she received numerous accolades for her work as a litigator and defense attorney specializing in minority rights issues. He is the former president of Healthcare Performance Improvement LLC and senior vice president/CMO for Sentara Healthcare, where his responsibilities included the clinical effectiveness programs, patient safety programs, physician integration efforts and medical management initiatives for Sentara&#8217;s hospital system and health plan. <p> Ra&#250;l Zambrano is a senior consultant for The Greeley Company. Previously, Dr. Zambrano served as a senior medical director for Oak Street Health; a CMO for Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.; for Aurora Healthcare in Kenosha, Wis.; deputy and interim CMO for VISN 7 in Georgia; and the chief of staff at the West Texas VA Health Care System. Dr. Zambrano received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University in New York, Master of Science in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his MD from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Dr. Zambrano is board certified in family medicine. He served in the United States Army Reserve from 2001&#8211;2012 with four deployments.</p>

<div>Leslie Zun is medical director, Lake County Health Department, Waukegan, Ill. He is also chairman/professor, department of emergency medicine, with a secondary appointment in the department of psychiatry, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science's Chicago Medical School, North Chicago, Ill. He is chief editor of the textbook Behavioral Emergencies for Healthcare Providers and course director for the past nine years for the American Association for Emergency Psychiatry's Annual National Update on Behavioral Emergencies conference. Prior to his current role, Dr. Zun was past president of the AAEP and a board member of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
