General FAQs

Administrative Fellowships are typically one-year in length, typically occurring at the conclusion of or shortly thereafter graduate degree conferral. There are some that are 18 to 24 months in duration as well.
While fellowships' start dates vary, many fellowships begin at the end of spring or early summer, close to July 1. There are graduate programs that require a third year, often called a residency, that includes a fellowship experience. There are also two-year fellowships available.
Typically an administrative residency is one of the final steps required to obtain a master's degree in healthcare management. Such experiences are usually arranged by an academic program in collaboration with a preceptor.

An administrative or postgraduate fellowship is a developmental experience that requires completion of a graduate degree before the fellow begins the program. Fellowship programs usually receive a large number of applicants from many different academic programs.

Although some opportunities in the directory may be listed as administrative residencies, most are Fellowships requiring a graduate degree; some of these fellowships will only accept applicants who have graduated from CAHME-accredited healthcare management programs.
