Sherie Yoon is ACHE’s 2024–2025 Stuart A. Wesbury Jr. Postgraduate Administrative Fellow. She earned her master’s degree in health administration from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio and her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Texas Tech University. Get to know Sherie in the Q&A below.

  1. How did you become interested in healthcare management?

My father has served as a source of continuous inspiration, serving in the military as an orthopedic technician and now a nurse. However, my personal interests were more rooted in addressing the social determinants of health in a nonclinical setting. This led to my pursuit of health and wellness promotion in college, and finding a role in child nutrition upon graduation. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found within myself a burning passion to impact my community in a different way—through healthcare management. So, I took a leap of faith along with confidence in my skillset and pursued my master's degree in healthcare administration.

  2. What aspects of the healthcare field interest you the most? What will you be looking out for as they evolve over the next few years?

I am interested in the use of AI in healthcare and how it evolves in terms of usage, regulation, and long-term impact on patient healthcare outcomes and addressing workforce shortages. I am also interested in addressing burnout and creating a diverse, inclusive workforce. As the healthcare workforce evolves over time, it is essential to engage with leaders on finding innovative and equitable solutions.

  3. Why did you join ACHE, and how did you engage with the organization as a student?

I joined ACHE as a student member at the start of my graduate program because I was told it was the premier organization for healthcare executives, and ACHE did not disappoint. As a student, I regularly consumed the printed publications, webinars and blog posts, and I connected with other ACHE members at local chapter events. I also made it a priority to attend the annual Congress on Healthcare Leadership to not just network with others but to gain perspective and knowledge on important topics as it related to healthcare leadership.

  4. Why did you want to serve as the Stuart A. Wesbury Jr. Postgraduate Fellow? Describe the opportunities you’ve had.

I loved my time and engagement with ACHE as a student and saw an opportunity in becoming a fellow in giving back to the organization committed to setting their members up for success. I've met various stakeholders across the nation who are committed to serving their communities in different capacities. Additionally, being the fellow has allowed me to work with the ACHE team to give back to the community through our members.

  5. What are your career goals, and how will you stay involved in ACHE?

As an Asian woman, I have struggled with finding a role model in healthcare leadership. I want to break barriers and become a healthcare executive to serve as a role model to others who are looking for someone that looks like them. I plan on obtaining the FACHE® credential as soon as possible and hope to end up in the DEI space in some capacity. I plan on remaining involved with ACHE through engaging with my local chapter and students, the future generation of leaders.

  6. What do you like to do to relax and unwind? What are some of your hobbies?

I like finding hole-in-the-wall restaurants with delicious food. When the weather is nice, I like to take my dog to the park and walk around the city. Some of my hobbies include DIY and crafts!
