ACHE Names Two Lifetime Service Award Winners 2022

CHICAGO, Feb. 24 2022The American College of Healthcare Executives has named Zeff Ross, LFACHE, and Steven M. Saxe, LFACHE, as recipients of the 2022 Lifetime Service Award. They will receive their awards on Monday, March 28, during ACHE’s 65th Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago.

The Lifetime Service Award was established in 2000 to recognize a Life Fellow or Retired Fellow who has made substantial contributions to ACHE during his or her career as a healthcare executive through elected office, service on ACHE committees or task forces, and participation in ACHE activities, independent chapters or affiliated groups.

Ross began his 28-year tenure at Memorial Healthcare System (Hollywood, Fla.) in 1991, working his way from hospital administrator to Executive Vice President, MHS and CEO, Memorial Regional Hospital before retiring in 2019. At ACHE, Ross served as Regent from 2003-2006, as well as on the Regents Advisory Council and Ethics Committee among other volunteer roles. He also received numerous awards, including the Lifetime Community Award from ACHE of South Florida; the Senior Careerist award from the ACHE Regent for Florida and the Spirit of Healing Award from the Memorial Foundation. A practiced mentor and career coach, Ross joined ACHE as a student in 1978, and earned his FACHE credential in 1996. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College and an MBA in in Health Care Administration from City University of New York, Bernard M. Baruch College/The Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Saxe, a pharmacist by training, worked in inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings, where he rapidly rose to leadership positions. In 2006, he moved to public health, joining the Washington State Department of Health. He retired from the department as Executive Director in 2019. Saxe helped found and served as president of the Puget Sound Health Care Executive Forum. He helped evolve this group into the official ACHE chapter for the state, the Washington State Healthcare Executive Forum (WSHEF), for which he was also president. He served as Regent from 2004-2007. Saxe joined the Washington State Medical Reserve Corps in 2021 to provide clinical support at COVD-19 vaccination and testing clinics. He has received awards such as the Distinguished Leadership Award from the Washington State Pharmacy Association, Regents Award from the ACHE Regent for Washington and several Chapter service awards. Saxe first joined ACHE in 1986 and earned his FACHE credential in 1999. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University and an MHA from Duke University.
