ACHE Announces Sister Carol Keehan as Honorary Fellow

CHICAGO, Jan. 27, 2020Sister Carol Keehan, DC (Daughters of Charity), immediate past president/CEO, Catholic Health Association of the United States, has been selected as an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Honorary Fellowship is a special category of ACHE membership. It recognizes individuals who have rendered distinguished service in the healthcare field or in related areas and who would not ordinarily be ACHE members. Keehan will receive her Honorary Fellowship on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at the Convocation Ceremony during ACHE’s 63rd Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago.

Keehan was the ninth president and CEO of the CHA from 2005 until her retirement in June 2019. She was responsible for all association operations for the CHA, leading the staff in their Washington, D.C., and St. Louis offices. Previously, as a member of the Daughters of Charity, she held a number of positions at hospitals the order sponsored for 35 years, including 15 years as president and CEO of Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. Keehan played a central role in advancing the Affordable Care Act in 2010, and was elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine in 2014. She continues to hold influential roles in the governance of several healthcare, insurance and educational organizations.

Among her awards and recognitions, Keehan has made multiple appearances on Modern Healthcare's list of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare,” and in 2010, she was included in TIME magazine's list of “100 Most Influential People in the World.” She holds a Master of Science degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. Additionally, she received its Distinguished Alumna Award in 2000, and was honored as an outstanding alumna in 2009. She has received honorary doctorate degrees from 11 different universities.
