ACHE Announces Recipients of Highest Individual Awards

CHICAGO, Jan. 13, 2023 – The American College of Healthcare Executives announces the following 2023 award winners: John M. Haupert, FACHE, is the recipient of the Gold Medal Award; Baljeet S. Sangha, FACHE, is the recipient of the Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year; and Paul B. Hofmann, DrPH, LFACHE, is the recipient of the Lifetime Service and Achievement Award.

The Gold Medal Award—ACHE’s highest honor bestowed on outstanding leaders—identifies Fellows of the American College of Healthcare Executives who best exemplify leadership at the organizational, local, state/provincial and national levels. The Gold Medal Award recognizes individuals who go beyond the confines of their own organization to continually contribute to the improvement of healthcare services and community health.

Haupert is president and CEO of Grady Health System, Atlanta, where he has served since 2011. Previously, he was executive vice president and COO, Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas, from 2006–2011. He served as the ACHE Regent for Texas—Northern, from 2010–2011. He will receive his award March 20 at the Opening Session during ACHE’s 66th Congress on Healthcare Leadership.

The Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year honors outstanding achievement in the field of healthcare management. The award is given to an exceptional healthcare executive who is younger than 40, is a Fellow of ACHE and holds a CEO or COO position in a healthcare organization.

Sangha is COO and deputy director of the San Francisco Health Network/San Francisco Department of Public Health, the fully integrated public healthcare system for the city and county of San Francisco. He previously was vice president, Operations and Support Services, Alameda Health System, Oakland, Calif. Sangha served as the ACHE Regent for California—Northern & Central, from 2019–2022. He will receive his award March 21 at the Malcolm T. MacEachern Memorial Lecture and Luncheon during ACHE’s 66th Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago.

The Lifetime Service and Achievement Award was created to recognize Life Fellows and Retired Fellows who have made outstanding, nationally recognized contributions to advance the profession of healthcare management and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Hofmann is president, Hofmann Healthcare Group, Moraga, Calif., and has served in a variety of senior executive positions through the country since 1968. Hofmann received the ACHE Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year in 1976, and he has served on several committees and in other capacities with ACHE, including the Ethics Task Force. He will receive his award March 20 at the Arthur C. Bachmeyer Memorial Address and Luncheon during ACHE’s 66th Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago.
