Brigadier General in the U.S. Army
General Rubenstein is the 2008-2009 ACHE Chairman. He previously was the Commanding General, Europe Medical Command and Command Surgeon, U.S. Army Europe. Rubenstein has served as a healthcare executive and leader in the Army for more than 30 years. His experience includes having commanded hospitals and headquarters at every level of the Army Medical Department and Military Health System, as well as having served in a variety of staff position.

Mark Chassin, MD
President of The Joint Commission
Prior to his position with The Joint Commission, Dr. Mark Chassin was previously the Edmond A. Guggenheim Professor and Chairman of the Department of Health Policy at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and served as the executive vice president for Excellence in Patient Care at Mount Sinai Medical Center. Prior to that, he served as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health. He is a board-certified internist and practiced emergency medicine for 12 years. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences and co-chaired its National Roundtable on Health Care Quality. Dr. Chassin’s research has focused on developing measures of quality for healthcare, using those measures to improve quality and understanding the relationship of quality measurement and improvement to health policy.

Dr. Martin is also a consultant with doctoral-level training in psychology and front-line experience in human resources management, operations and information technology. Since earning his doctorate from Rutgers University in 1989, he has served in leadership positions, consulted with numerous organizations and provided coaching to senior level executives. During his 18-year career, he has consulted with senior and mid-level executives and human resources departments at major organizations. Dr. Martin also serves as a faculty member to VHA and ACPE where he teaches courses for physician executives, nurse executives and clinical managers.
