CHICAGO, March 15, 2003—Lynn B. Nicholas, FACHE, president and chief executive officer, Louisiana Hospital Association, Baton Rouge, has been elected to serve on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of nearly 30,000 healthcare executives.

Nicholas took office today at the Council of Regents meeting during ACHE's 46th Congress on Healthcare Management at the Hilton Chicago. She will serve a three-year term representing ACHE affiliates on ACHE's Board of Governors, the authority that oversees ACHE operations and member services.

Nicholas has been president and chief executive officer of the Louisiana Hospital Association since 2000. She is responsible for the strategic and day-to-day operations of the 158-member association and its affiliate companies; she also serves as chief spokesperson on behalf of the membership to state and federal lawmakers, other associations, and the general public. Before assuming her current position, Nicholas was executive vice president and chief operating officer of the New Jersey Hospital Association in Princeton. From 1976 to 1994, she served in increasingly responsible positions at Morristown (NJ) Memorial Hospital, including administrative director, Laboratory Services; assistant vice president, Professional Services; vice president, Administration; and senior vice president, Clinical and Ambulatory Services. She began her career at Morristown as a medical technologist.

Prior to being elected an ACHE Governor, Nicholas served as the ACHE Regent for Southern New Jersey from 1997 to 1999. She is chair of the board of directors of ShareCor LLC and chair of the Louisiana HealthWorks Commission. In addition, she is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and an appointee to the Louisiana Healthcare Commission, Medical Care Advisory Committee of the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals, and the American Hospital Association Council of Metropolitan Hospitals.

Board certified in healthcare management and an ACHE Fellow, Nicholas received her master's degree in healthcare administration from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, and her bachelor's degree in medical technology from Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens. She has also completed the executive development program at the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration in Charlottesville, VA.
