Mark your calendars for a special session at this year’s Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago. Session 62X: “Driving Financial Efficiency With an Integrated Approach to Medical Equipment Management,” will examine how Bon Secours St. Francis’ stewardship initiative necessitated a new model of partnership. The session will be held on Tuesday, March 12, from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Speakers include Karen Schwartz, FACHE, vice president, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System, and Brian Poplin, DHA, FACHE, president, ARAMARK Healthcare Technologies. CareFusion

CareFusion’s “Moving Beyond Excellence” webinar, held on March 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. Pacific time, will examine how St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, is taking supply chain optimization to the next level with the help of supply chain automation. Jason Hays, director of supply chain at St. Rita’s, will share how the 425-bed hospital reached this level with the installation of Pyxis supply automation technologies from San Diego-based CareFusion. After seeing significant financial and operational improvements in medical and surgical areas, St. Rita’s installed supply automation in its OR. This automation solution integrated with the hospital’s OR information system to streamline nursing workflow and allow the nurses to spend more time on patient care. In addition, the solution helped St. Rita’s improve inventory management, increase charge capture and better control supply costs due to the availability of actionable data.

At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will have gained perspectives on St. Rita’s traditional supply distribution model and challenges, the hospital’s strategic and workflow transformation goals for supply automation, how to roll out successful supply automation in medical/surgical and OR areas, and St. Rita’s financial results/ROI after the Pyxis technologies implementation. To register for this complimentary webinar, visit carefusion.com/st.ritaswebinar.

Philips Healthcare

Each day brings new information regarding health reform programs and projects. This includes activities delineated under the Affordable Care Act of 2010, which set federal health reform in motion, but also among private payors, with their broad portfolio of health reform-related changes.

The Philips Healthcare “Reimbursement Simplified” website has added a new section on “U.S. Health Reform Implementation” that may help. The resources identify the most significant Medicare health reform activities now under way at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and other agencies—from ACOs and bundled payments to health exchanges and essential health benefits. The site also highlights health reform efforts among private payors, who are actively implementing similar programs.

Please visit www.philips.com/reimbursement. Click “U.S. Health Reform Implementation” at the top of the page or in the left column. The site provides information about reimbursement policies, rates and coverage in both the public and private sectors. You will also find announcements about upcoming webinars in our “Reimbursement Simplified” webinar series and “on-demand” archives of past sessions.
