Fellow Projects

Fellow projects afford ACHE affiliates the opportunity to think and write about subjects that have broad impact on the field of healthcare management and to share their knowledge and experience with colleagues, students, consultants, trustees, university program faculty, and others.

Fellow projects illustrate healthcare executives' ability to:

  • Identify and define problems or issues
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Understand and discuss philosophical issues
  • Propose and evaluate solutions to problems
  • Develop key healthcare management skills in others

There are three options for fulfilling the Fellow project requirement. Prospective Fellows may:

  • Complete a thesis on a topic of significance to the field of healthcare management;

  • Complete four case reports on four distinct areas of healthcare management; or

  • Conduct and document a mentorship project in which they develop leadership capabilities in a junior executive or postgraduate fellow in their organization. (For additional information on how to conduct a mentoring relationship, read these articles from the "Leadership in Mentoring" column in Healthcare Executive magazine.)

For detailed descriptions of the project types and how to complete and format your project, download a copy of the Fellow Project Guide (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, click here. You may also click here for frequently asked questions about Fellow projects. To obtain a copy of the Guide by mail, send a request, including your mailing address, to membership1@ache.org.

Past case reports on the following pages are available for purchase—or if highlighted, for viewing online. These reports can be invaluable in helping you address some of the challenges you and your organization face. Click on one of the following links for a list of titles:

Remember, to advance to Fellow status, you must:

  • Complete three years as a Diplomate in good standing;
  • Have completed a total of 24 hours of continuing education over the previous three years (at least 12 hours must be from Category I [ACHE education] programs
