HE Mag/Jan/Feb/LaborSupply - Supply Chain Ratio

Very interesting article. I am especially interested in the discussion around a supply chain financial indicator. Do Fitch or Moody's present recommended "supply expense"/"total revenue" at the department level? Because different departments have varying levels of supply to revenue ratio's (think OR vs. Radiology) there is a need for specificity if this is to be useful at the department level. Has anyone reading this tackled this issue before? We plan to track our historical performance and work towards improvement specifically in the OR, but it would nice to compare our performance to a benchmark. Any other recommended resources that would helpful with this issue?

"Neither Fitch nor Moody’s has any benchmark information at the department level. There are two companies, Premier and Thomson/Reuters, that have a division that specifically presents many hospital financial and operating indicators benchmarks at the department level.  Your hospital must subscribe to their service to get the information you have asked about in this post.  There is a fee attached to these services, so you would want your hospital finance people to review both services to see which one is best suited for your hospital."
