    Mutlispecialty Practices

How is anyone else handling billing for a multispecialty practice?  We are getting denied for services provided by the neurologist linked to a multispecialty group if the internal medicine doctor from that group already saw the patient.  Is there anything we should be doing differently to get paid for the neurologist coverage.

    Thanks

    Hi, Dennis,

Just wanted to reach out and suggest that you might also raise these questions in our members-only ACHE Official Group on LinkedIn, as another avenue for potential feedback. Here's a link for your convenience:

    Re: Mutlispecialty Practices

    Hi Dennis,

If billing on the same day, each doctor must use a different ICD-9 (diagnostic) code for their separate encounter.  The neurologist can bill his/her visit as a consult visit, providing he/she references the referring internist in his/her note.

Should be as simple as this.  Good luck!

I thought the consulting CPT codes were going away for Medicare?
