    Thank you for your feedback

I have been fortunate to gain diverse experience in healthcare for the past 12 years of which 5 have been in a management position with added accountability in support services area. My desire and commitment to improve health care needs of the community have led me to obtain MHA and MBA degrees in HCA. However, recent attempts to advance my career have not been successful as I continue to seek a VP level position in ancillary and support services area. I believe my resume as well as cover letter appear to be to balanced with reflections on accomplishments. One area that needs improvement, however, is networking. I was hoping to hear from some of you on your thoughts on what I need to improve or do differently. I have been open to relocation.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

    Tom

    Tom,

You are correct to look to networking as an effective strategy to help you advance professionally.  However, networking ought to be recognized as having at least as much a strategic (that means long-term in this case) aspect as a tactical (that means immediate in this case) aspect.  One hopes you have been building and maintaining your networks all throughout your healthcare administration career.  You can find networking “how to’s” and resources on ache.org  under the Career Services tab - check out Career Management 101.  Also, now is the time to join the ACHE LinkedIn group online and use that social networking tool to help you advance your career.  Your profile (not simply a resume)  will become a mechanism for promoting your personal brand.  And, having a target job, target locations and target organizations also will be necessary.  This may seem like lots of work in addition to having your job, but it is true that finding a job is a job in and of itself.

Thank you for your feedback. I also agree that networking should focus on buliding professional relationships. In addition, focusing on my "brand" is an important aspect. LinedIn is a great idea and will pursue further.

    Thanks again, Tom
