I believe our process could have been improved with more advance readings and outside facillitation for some part of the process as we fornulated our strategy. An impartial informed facilitator with venture fund experience could have challenged our thinking more.
Early in our organizational life cycle, we could benefit from six month checkpoints on our strategy as opposed to our current annual schedule.
One underemphasized element in the course and/or book is to widen the environmental scan and competitive anaysis beyond the typical health sector environment. Much can be learned from other non-healthcare sectors and the best practices and business case studies of other service industries. We tend too often to only be comfortable with using healthcare centric data and comparatives and miss a rich opportunity to learn from others outside our industry. This is particularly helpful in visioning a new future and setting a strategy.
