I am interested in obtaining any opinions, and advice, on employment in the healthcare field. As a general introduction, I am in the midst of a career change. After 23 years with a major petroleum company as a Senior Project Manager, I have opted for a severance package over relocation. I have extensive and diverse corporate business experience and acumen with an entrepreneurial spirit. My project management background is very diverse. I have extensive experience in regulatory compliance, governmental affairs, program management, commercial construction, product quality, and process improvement initiatives. I have an outstanding work ethic, an excellent understanding of client and customer service needs, vast experience in cross-functional team building and the ability to communicate across all levels of management.
For a long time, I have had a desire and a passion for the healthcare business. Although I have no practical clinical experience, I have had some exposure to the healthcare environment. I have been consulting with a church affiliated Community Care Center offering low-cost medical and dental services, regarding the synergy of their services and two local hospitals. I have been involved with a healthcare service gap analysis team as well as an identification card project for the Community Care Center. Most recently, I put together a strategic plan for presentation to the hospital advisory board as a strawman model for process development. In addition, I worked with the doctors and dentists on the original implementation and remodeling of the Community Care Center. I was responsible for permitting, coordination of volunteers, material donations, and implementation of the project. I have also served as a volunteer for another local Community Center as part of a strategic planning team developing an integration plan for future expansion and acquisitions.
I believe many of my talents translate directly to the healthcare industry. I am nine hours from completion of my MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management. I am very interested in a career in the healthcare field, but I am not sure where my talents and diverse corporate experience may fit into the healthcare continuum. I was hoping someone may have some ideas. I am also open to additional training that may be beneficial to my career development. So far, I have not had a lot of success breaking into the healthcare realm. Suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim
