I am early in my career and at a place that appears to me to be a fork in the road. Previous to earning my MHA degree, I worked for a few years in an optometrist office. I did a little of everything (none management) in the office and really enjoyed the environment.
During graduate school, I worked as an Administrative Intern for a 9 hospital health care system. Now I am wrapping up a one year Administrative Fellowship with a larger, more notable health system and with potential to continue down the hospital career path.
I feel I have two options. I can continue down the hospital path and try to work my way up to the top. Or I can try and go to work in a physician office setting, which has more appeal to me. I would be interested in applying for an office manager/pratice administrator position.
My question is am I selling my career short by going to the physican office setting as an office manager and not pursuing the hospital career path? Any insight or advice for me?
