Dear Mr Davis,
These are good questions and hopefully ones that the program and faculty at Saint Xavier will help you address. There are many lines of work within managed care and managed care takes place in many types of organizations. As a first step to understanding the range of setting and job titles, complete the following exrcise: log into the ACHE Affiliates Directory and in the search field for states enter California. Next drop down to the fields under the heading Areas of Expertise and put a check in the boxes for managed care and network development under the headng Healthcare Delivery. Then go to the bottom of the page and select the search button. You should find five pages of names of affiliates who have expertise in managed care, their job titles, and the companies they work for. You might consider contacting some of them and finding out about their career track. Or, you can do the same with Illinois as the target state and identfy similar information with executives close at hand. Perhaps your program can engage some to come and speak to you and your peers to provide an inside view of managed care today as seen in healthcare delivery organizations, insurers and even governmental programs.
